A cool breeze blows at your back. You wiggle your toes in the sand as you take in the evening sunset from the shoreline of Beacon’s Beach. There are a couple of surfers still sprinkled throughout the water – those dedicated few determined to ride the last wave before the sun goes down. The main thoroughfare of historic Coast Highway is calling your name. As you try to decide whether to unwind with a relaxing glass of wine at Solterra Winery or spoil your taste buds with a delicious dinner and live music at Le Papagayo, you’re suddenly reminded of what most Leucadians already know – you’re in paradise.

The quaint and casual beachside community of Leucadia boasts a laid-back vibe and residents who are passionately dedicated to “keeping Leucadia funky”. Originally named after one of the dreamy Greek Isles, Leucadia is located approximately 25 miles north of the hustle and bustle of downtown San Diego.

Locals love grabbing breakfast at the popular Leucadia Donut Shoppe or Pannikin Coffee & Tea, which just happens to be located in a historic building that was once the Santa Fe Railroad Station! The neighboring community of Encinitas offers big-box necessities including Target, Trader Joe’s, ALDI, Kohl’s and more.

Leucadia is bordered on the north by Batiquitos Lagoon, on the east by the 5 freeway and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Commuter rail and Amtrak train stops are available in nearby Carlsbad and downtown Encinitas. Encinitas Union School District and San Dieguito Union High School District serve the youngest residents of Leucadia, as well as the surrounding communities of Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. There are also several private schools in the area.

Whether you’re checking off a bucket list item with lessons at Leucadia Surf School or spending a lazy Sunday perusing the booths at the Leucadia/Encinitas Farmers Market and Art Fair, you’re sure to be wowed by the tranquil seaside serenity that Leucadia exudes.
