The Historic Cortez Hill District

El Cortez Hotel

As one of San Diego’s oldest residential neighborhoods, Cortez Hill is names the famous El Cortez Hotel, which has been restored into condominiums. Residents of this historic landmark enjoy some amazing views including those of Balboa Park and San Diego Bay.

The streets of Cortez Hill are peppered with beautiful Victorian-style homes. Newer condos and apartments complete the wide range of options available to those who love the energy of a vibrant downtown setting.

Though quiet, Cortez Hill sits on the edge of a thriving urban center. The lavender blooms of the jacaranda trees that line its main streets transport to earlier days of this community. But a rich history has not stopped some great development including the Tweet Street Park.

1453 Fourth Avenue features a block of 205 affordable apartments over 12 stories. From Studios to 1,2,3-Bedrooms, these apartments will also have parking.

Infrastructure Restoration

A two-stage project to restore the beautiful streetlights to fully functioning, old time charm is being handled by Nasland Engineering.

Restaurants Include: McCormick & Schmick’s, Sunsets American Bar & Grill, Calaco Grill, Fifth Avenue Grill, Twiggs El Cortez, Mediterranean Café and Lounge, and Darband.

They have a YWCA and family center, where newcomers can come and get to know the area while they find permanent housing.
