Our Life’s Achievements
When we come to the end of our days and we look back on the things we did, most of us are not going to say, “I wished I had worked more hours.” It sounds kind of absurd when I say it that way doesn’t it? Yet for many of us, we cruise through life on autopilot, allowing circumstance and our next paycheck determine our top priorities.
I am not saying that making a good living or being responsive when needs come up are not important. They are. But in the grand scheme, all of these things are there so that we can improve the quality of life for our families, our friends, ourselves. They are the means to an end and not the end in itself.
So what is living? Well that is something that every individual has to decide for him or herself. But, figuring out what that is, like quality time with your spouse or kids, will enable you to get the most out of each twenty-four hour period.
I know one family that listens to uplifting recordings in the morning as they enjoy breakfast together to start their day off on the right foot. I know another that turns off the TV at suppertime and everyone shares what they did or learned. Then, no matter what happens next, the family is staying close.
Take some time this week to think about what is really important and then start adding one thing into the mix. It might not happen overnight but when we do make the important things a priority, over time our life becomes a masterpiece.
