About La Mesa

You can see them every week at Swami’s, a retired group of friends meeting to solve the world’s problems. Across the street at Boulevard Barber and Shave, men discuss the day’s events, dishing about what’s happening in “the village,” while the barber shaves them with an old-fashion straight razor. All along La Mesa Boulevard you will find little things that make La Mesa Village feel like Mayberry—from the Thursday night car show and the boxcar derby races, to the patriotic Flag Day Parade.  It’s hard to believe this quaint town is just 20 minutes east of San Diego and the Pacific Ocean. Unless you live here though, you may not experience the small town feel of La Mesa. But you might just catch yourself looking around for a DeLorean and Marty McFly.

There’s another crowd, too. Professionals, who walk or commute to work in different parts of San Diego County, have chosen to live in La Mesa because of its homey atmosphere. They also get to enjoy the hip side of what La Mesa has to offer. At the French-inspired Bo-beau’s, indulge in epicurean delights, or hang out on a Sunday afternoon and watch sports and grab a burger and brew after the game at Johnny B’s. If a bar and grill isn’t your style, head over to San Pasqual Winery for a glass of wine.

Part old-fashion Mayberry, part stylish Pasadena, La Mesa is both red-gingham and stylish—a place where you can pick up farm fresh produce at the farmer’s market on Fridays, or purchase exquisitely designed jewelry at Blumenthal’s Fine Jewelry.

The charming village of La Mesa has emerged as one of the county’s most intriguing places to call home.
